In Memory of Ase

Douglas Gibson

Grade 3

The “Peer Gynt” Suite written by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg tells the story of the downfall and subsequent redemption of a Norwegian peasant anti-hero. One of his most enduring elements in that music is the beautiful and well-known string lament entitled, “Ase’s Death”. Composer Douglas Gibson has written a beautiful new original work reflecting on this music. Nicely scored and approachable, this piece would be a wonderful addition to any concert.
